Boat tours & sightseeing

Publish date: 12 April 2024

The best way to tour a waterlogged city like Stockholm is, naturally, from the water.

The fact that Stockholm is built on 14 beautiful islands connected by 57 bridges, makes a sightseeing tour by boat somewhat of a given. There's in fact an old saying the best way to experience Stockholm is "from the water". Cruising along the waters around Kungsholmen or Gamla Stan on sunny summer's day, it's not hard to understand why.

The largest boat tour operators in Stockholm are Strömma and Red Sightseeing. Strömma operates several dinner -and brunch cruises, both in Stockholm and out to the archipelago, while Red offers Hop-on, hop-off tours where guests can choose when to join or leave the tour at their leisure. During the summer season, Strömma also operates the Drottningholm tour, which takes passengers from Stockholm City to Drottningholm Palace along lake Mälaren.

You'll also find tour operators specializing in trips to the Stockholm archipelago. Both guided tours, and regular ferry traffic, like Waxholmsbolaget and Blidösundsbolaget.
