The history of Utö Värdshus begins in the late 19th century when the island was sold to a well to do gentleman known as “Merchant Lewin”. Soon after his purchase, Lewin converted the northern portion of Utö from a sleepy mining community to a fashionable beach and spa resort complete with soirées and high society balls. Some of the more famous guests included the artist Anders Zorn, Hollywood film star Greta Garbo, author August Strindberg and even the Swedish music legend Evert Taube has performed and sung praises of our beautiful island. And so it began.
Utö Värdshus has evolved into a year-round restaurant and conference resort which offers a variety of activities and events. Below follows a list of our owner history.

The ferries run year-round from Årsta Havsbad Pier and during the summer months even from “Strömkajen” in downtown Stockholm. If you are taking the ferry from Årsta Pier and have your own car take Highway 73 towards Nynäshamn taking the exit marked “Försvarsmakten Berga, Årsta Havsbad” and follow the signs to “Årsta Brygga”. Once at Årsta Pier there is parking for about 50 Swedish kronor per day payable by credit card at the ticket machines located in the lots. The trip takes approximately 30 minutes from central Stockholm when traffic is running smoothly.
If you are travelling with public transportation take the shuttle train, “pendeltåg”, from T-Centralen to Västerhaninge changing there to Bus #846 which will take you all the way to Årsta Pier.
Ferry schedules are available from Utö Rederi AB or in the menu below marked “Fery schedule”.
If you prefer to travel apart from regular ferry tours you may easily charter a taxi boat with us.
