Ljusterö Folk museum

Mellansjö, Ljusterö, Österåker

Folk museum from the 18 th century with a farming, boating and fishing museum. The museum was built in Vadholma, on the southern part of Ljusterö island. In 1931 the house was moved to Mellansjö, where it is now located on a hill overlooking lake Kyrksjön. The collections include costumes, fiance gifts, photos, appliances and much more.

Right below the hill the boat and fishing museum is located. An old preserved grocery store is also located here.

Please observe that the post adress is Linanäsvägen, however the museum and the old buildnings are located at Mellansjövägen / Tolvmansbacken. 


Take the E18 from Stockholm toward Norrtälje. Turn off toward Åkersberga and continue on road 276. Turn right at Östanå Färjeläge, where you'll drive on board the car ferry to Ljusterö. Approximate travel time: approx. 45 mins + 5 mins car ferry.

From Stockholm Central Station, take the red metro line to Danderyds Sjukhus. From there, take bus 626 towards Ljusterö. Approximate travel time: 1 hr and 45 mins.
